To set up a 301 redirect with optional masking at the domain registrar level, follow these general steps. Note that the exact process may vary depending on your domain registrar, so it's essential to consult their specific documentation or support team for detailed guidance.

1. Log in to Your Domain Registrar Account

  • Access your account on the domain registrar's website where your domain is registered.

  • Navigate to the section where you can manage your domain settings. This section is often labeled as "My Domains," "Domain Management," or something similar.

2. Find the Redirect or Forwarding Section

  • Look for a section or a setting labeled "Redirects," "Forwarding," "Domain Forwarding," or "Web Forwarding."

  • Select the domain you wish to redirect if you have multiple domains under your account.

3. Set Up the 301 Redirect

  • Choose the option to set up a new redirect or modify an existing one.

  • Specify the type of redirect as a 301 (Permanent) redirect. This type of redirect tells search engines that the move is permanent and transfers the SEO value to the new URL.

  • Enter the destination URL where you want the domain to redirect. Ensure this URL is correct because the 301 redirect will permanently point to this location.

  • Note: You can remove this 301 redirect at anytime.

4. Optional Domain Masking

  • If you want to use domain masking (also known as URL masking or URL framing), look for an option labeled "Masking," "URL Masking," or "Cloaking."

  • Enable this feature and specify the details, such as the masked URL, title, and description if required.

  • Domain masking allows the original domain name to remain visible in the browser's address bar while displaying the content of the destination URL.

5. Save Changes and Test

  • Save or apply the changes. It might take some time for the changes to propagate across the internet, so the redirect might not work immediately.

  • After some time, test the redirect by visiting your original domain. You should be redirected to the new URL seamlessly.

6. Monitor and Verify

  • Monitor the redirect to ensure it works as intended. You can use online tools to check the status code of your redirect to confirm it's a 301.

  • If you're implementing the redirect for SEO purposes, monitor your search engine rankings and traffic to ensure they are being transferred correctly.

If you encounter any issues or if the domain registrar's interface is not clear, don't hesitate to contact their support team for assistance. They can provide you with specific guidance tailored to their system.

That's it!
